If you use a screen reader
Not everyone uses a traditional browser. Because of this we have designed our site to work with screen readers. We use text (in ALT tags) to describe images. We also use descriptive links (eg More about mortgages instead of Click here) so you know where the link takes you, and we don't use frames or tables (apart from any tabular data) which are difficult for screen readers to interpret.
Our technical considerations
The following is a list of the technical points that we have taken into account for accessibility benefits when building this website;
- The website is valid XHTML Strict
- Clean table-less code
- Jump links are available to "skip to content"
- At go-live, all images have ALT text
- Forms use "tabindex", users can tab through form fields
- While the website uses extensive JavaScript, it remains completely accessible should the user not have without JavaScript
- Flash is not required for anything other than videos + podcasts
